Walker County Childrens Services
Mission Statement – The Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center is committed to provide an accessible, effective and comprehensive continuum of care for children and their families; to promote the improvement of their mental health and well-being; and to guarantee the highest level of quality through the utilization of a safe, supportive and responsive atmosphere.
We help kids who show serious emotional and behavioral problems resulting from overall family stress, divorce matters, abuse and neglect experiences, substance abuse issues, and developmental challenges. Therapeutic services are individually tailored to the specific needs of each child and family situation.
Child and Adolescent Outpatient Services – provides individual, family and group counseling; adventure-based counseling; psychiatric evaluation; in-home intervention; crisis intervention; child case management; juvenile court and school evaluations; hospital referrals; and behavioral aide services to children and adolescents age 3 to 18 years.
Juvenile Court Liaison Services – 5 Counties, provides linkage of information, court assessments, and mental health consultations/education between Juvenile Court and Mental Health; short term therapeutic services and referrals, etc.
Children’s Day Treatment Services – Offers four/five day per week, three/four hours daily, intensive therapeutic program for children ranging from 30 months through 14 years with emotional and behavioral problems.
- Preschool Day Treatment services meet 8am – 4:30pm five days weekly.
- Child/Adolescent Day Treatment services meet after school during school year. During the summer months, elementary and middle aged children are served during mid-day hours.
