Individual and Family Support

Alabama Individual and Family Support is a statewide program placed into law by Alabama legislators in 1993. The program is an all-volunteer organization made up of individuals with developmental disabilities and their family members. There are local councils operating in all 67 counties within the state. These councils provide support, education and a limited amount of funding to meet nontraditional needs for eligible individuals. Northwest is proud to serve as fiscal agent and support staff for Region II West in the state covering 13 counties. We attend each local meeting, prepare and maintain the records and disburse the funding as directed by the councils. The Northwest philosophy of promoting self-advocacy/self determination is a natural fit with the Individual and Family Support mission.
