Floyd Newman, Jr. "Skip"
Executive Director

Skip Newman has been serving as Executive Director of the Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center since 2003, and brings to this position a history of twenty-five plus years with Northwest. Skip received his Associate Degree from Walker College in Jasper, and later earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Social Work (1975) from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. Immediately after graduation, Skip began serving as a therapist at the Fayette Outpatient office and later became County Director. Skip was presented with opportunities to serve in Winston and Walker counties during the early 1980's and in 1987 he became Director of the Lamar County Outpatient office. In 1993, Skip returned to Fayette as Director of Outpatient Services and later served as Clinical Director for the five-county catchments. The Board of Directors named Skip Newman as Executive Director Designate in 2002, for the transition to Executive Director.

"I am extremely proud of Northwest and the accomplishments the center has made over the years. I feel, as a comprehensive community mental health center, Northwest has bridged gaps to bring home the best opportunities available for consumers and their families. I thank the Board of Directors, the community, consumers, and especially the staff for their commitment to Enrich Lives through Quality Care."

On a personal note, Skip is married to Jane Hubbert Newman, a registered nurse, who has also worked at Northwest for over twenty-five years. The Newman's are Episcopalians and members of Saint Michael's Episcopal Church in Fayette. They are proud parents of Angie and Robby Scruggs, Dusty and Thomas Monk, and Floyd Newman, III (better known as Trey). They have two wonderful granddaughters, at the present, Sarah Emily and Sadie Flower Scruggs.
